Erm… Hi! Sort of…

March 11, 2009

Yeah, so I completely failed to start writing again. I just don’t have anything to write about at the moment, really. I mean, I went to Sydney last week to see some bands and friends, but that isn’t really interesting to anyone else at all, is it. I even took a bunch of pictures of gorillas at Taronga Zoo. I’ll probably upload them to flickr at some point, but considering I haven’t even uploaded the ones I took in Finland yet, I don’t see it happening anytime soon.

So until I start writing (proper writing, not just links to amusing newspaper articles or youtube videos), I’ll be on twitter. Add me or whatever if you’re on it. Because that’s where my articles and links and youtubes will be for the time being.

Cheery bye!

Jesse.

Two Months…

February 1, 2009

Wow. I haven’t updated this blog for two months. The last update was December 1st. It’s February 1st now. Jeepers.

I’m back in Australia, it’s stupidly hot here, and I wish I was back in the UK. But I have some stuff planned, so that’s good. More info to come, I guess.

I’ll sum up the last month or so of my trip at some point next week – there’s some good photos from Finland that I haven’t uploaded yet, so I’ll have to do that sometime. And I might even do an extremely belated 2008 music roundup. I attempted something of a top twenty back in December, but I got to number fifteen and got bored because I was writing it in my notebook. I probably won’t do one as extensive as previous years, because, well, fuck it.

Halfblog is back up and running for another year. Expect more of the same tired old drivel. I know I am. But at least no work complaining can be expected – I haven’t got a job! Hurrah…

Frost!

These pics were taken around 16.30 today. That frost had been there all day. All day. The sun is so weak it can’t burn through tiny ice particles. As for the square, it’s covered in a thin layer of ice. I nearly fell over a whole bunch of times crossing it last night.

Fog!

It is somewhat foggy today. So I went out and took a bunch of pictures. That’s just a few of them – the rest are on my flickr page. The link is in the sidebar.

It was seriously cold out there, so after about 10 minutes my hands were numb, and even my camera was icy. It was also very quiet. Apart from the constant noise of traffic from the motorway over the other side of the field, it was silent. All that could be heard was the rustle of squirrels and rabbits in the leaves. I tried taking a picture of one of the squirrels, but it ran up a tree and disappeared.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour

I’ve become somewhat obsessed with this song. The singer was on Never Mind the Buzzcocks last night. Their other songs are pretty decent, too.

The Tastiest Accident Ever

M-WAY COVERED BY SWEETS AND BEER

Part of the M42 is shut after a six-vehicle crash sent marshmallows and beer spilling out onto the carriageway.

The northbound stretch was closed at junctions 10 and 11, near Tamworth Services, after several lorries and a van collided at about 0400 GMT.

I just love the idea of a truck full of marshmallows.

a beret, a baguette, and a cop

Yeah, I spent twenty minutes drawing this.

Seeds

November 14, 2008

It’s probably due to another one of those bizarre European laws (hello, bent vegetables), but these seeds I bought today provided a good ten seconds of amusement.

For the blind:

Ingredients: pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pine nuts
Allergens: contains pine nuts
Packed in a factory where nuts (including peanuts) and seeds are processed

I love food labelling regulations.

November 5th

November 7, 2008

It was bonfire/fireworks night last night. I found it hilarious, walking through the campus to the sound of explosions and the occasional burst of colour from behind the trees. I don’t know whether it’s a good or bad idea to allow students access to explosives, but it sure made things interesting.

My favourite part of the night was watching a group setting fireworks off in a tennis court and almost blowing their legs off when the launchers fell over. The court was full of sparks!

Why I Miss Australia

Boy arrested breaking into police station

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in Adelaide – for breaking into a local police station.
Police said officers at the Parks Police Station, in Adelaide’s western suburbs, heard knocking on the front doors of the station at about 3am (CDT) today.

“The knocking quickly turned into the sound of smashing glass, with the patrol allegedly locating the youth in the front foyer of the police station,” a police spokesman said.

The boy was charged with breaking into the building and with property damage after about $2000 damage was caused a front window and the front sliding door.

He was expected to appear in the Port Adelaide Youth Court today.

We have the best stupid people in the world. People here don’t know how not to get in everyone else’s way (seriously, at Sainsburys the other day, this old woman came careering towards me, trolley in one hand, stick of bread in the other, and a glazed expression on her face. I had to jump out of the way or she would have run me over in her haste to get to a bottle of milk) but at least they know not to break into police stations while there are police in there.
